How accurate is this estimate?
It's only as accurate as the prices you enter. Grocery prices vary by store, region and season, so treat the result as a useful ballpark for budgeting or comparing recipes, not an exact figure.
Do I need to include ingredients I already have, like salt or olive oil?
Only if you want the full true cost. Many people skip pantry staples they already own and only price the ingredients they'd actually need to buy for that recipe.
What do "package price" and "package size" mean?
Package price is what you paid for the whole item at the store (e.g. $4.99 for a bag of rice). Package size and amount used should be in the same unit — for example, if the bag is 32 oz and the recipe uses 8 oz, enter 32 and 8. The calculator works out the fraction of the package the recipe actually used.
