Frequently asked questions
Does this work for any recipe, not just ones on this site?
Yes — enter the ingredients from any recipe. The scaler just multiplies each amount by the ratio between your original and target servings.
Why do my scaled amounts have odd fractions?
Scaling is pure math, so a recipe for 3 that you scale to 5 will produce amounts like 1.67 cups. Round to the nearest practical measure — cooking rarely needs more precision than that.
Should I scale spices and salt the same way as everything else?
It's a good starting point, but strong seasonings like salt, chili and spices don't always scale linearly. Scale them, then taste and adjust rather than trusting the number blindly.
